Sedation Dentistry Options: Comfortable, Anxiety-Free Dental Care
Various sedation methods, such as nitrous oxide, conscious oral sedation, and IV sedation, are available to help patients remain calm during dental procedures. Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” provides quick relaxation and wears off soon after treatment, while conscious oral sedation keeps patients awake but significantly reduces anxiety. For more complex procedures or those with heightened anxiety, IV sedation or general anesthesia may be recommended, allowing patients to sleep throughout the treatment. Your dentist can guide you in choosing the most suitable sedation option based on your specific requirements.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as “laughing gas,” is an effective and safe sedation agent that is inhaled through a mask that fits over your nose to help you relax. Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide allows you to breathe normally through your nose, and within minutes you should start to feel the effects. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some patients comment that their legs and arms feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel comfortable and calm. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after the small mask is removed. Talk to the doctor about whether nitrous oxide would be a good option for you.
Conscious Oral Sedation
Conscious oral sedation is an alternative minimal sedation that allows you to remain awake but relaxed. For people who have a fear of dental procedures, conscious sedation may take away some of the anxiety. The doctor will combine the use of oral sedation along with a local anesthetic so you have little to no discomfort. You should plan to have someone bring you to the appointment and be available to drive you home following treatment.
IV Sedation
IV sedation/general anesthesia, uses medications to allow the patient to go to sleep while receiving dental treatment. Surgical patients or patients with high levels of anxiety, or special needs may benefit from IV sedation/general anesthesia. The doctor can discuss the benefits of general anesthesia and help patients determine if it is the best choice for them.

Why Choose Us?
For families across Campbell and the surrounding South Bay, our two-doctor team offers something that’s increasingly rare: comprehensive care under one roof, delivered by dentists who take the time to know you. From routine cleanings and fillings to dental implants, Invisalign, and full mouth reconstruction, most of what you need is handled here — without a referral across town.
That care is backed by technology we’ve chosen for your comfort as much as our precision. Digital scanning replaces messy impression trays, 3D cone beam imaging lets us plan implants with confidence, and same-day CAD/CAM restorations mean many crowns are finished in a single visit. Both doctors are active members of the American Dental Association and pursue ongoing advanced training, so your care reflects current thinking — not habit.
